Restaurant review: The Shed

"I am really looking forward to heading back to see what else they have to offer as soon as possible"

Ever since reading about The Shed in the Ballito Vibe I have been anxious to visit, especially since every report I hear on the street has been a good one.

I finally managed to get there on Saturday afternoon with the whole family in tow.

A laid-back vibe permeates the entire establishment, from the name to the setting at the very chilled Litchi Orchard (a match made in heaven). Except for the service that is – the waiters were all the ball and did not keep us waiting.

They were very friendly and did their best to accommodate us. It seems like its advisable to book a table in advance or you may just be disappointed.

The menu had much to offer with quite a few flavour profiles (something you don’t often see on the Dolphin Coast).

We ordered a meat board, butternut and bacon salad and a kiddies pizza.

My wife thoroughly enjoyed the salad. The butternut seemed to be slightly “candied” which added some good sweetness and went really well with the pear and bacon.

Usually I find restaurant salads rather under whelming, but this one was anything but that and was super enjoyable.

The meat platter was also quite interesting, pilled high with Asian style ribs, American pulled pork, steak and some yummy sides.

The ribs where nice and tender with a good caramelization going on with the sauce.

The pulled pork was also top notch. Absolutely yum. I made it into a mini taco with the slaw and and flat bread that come with the board.

My only complaint would be the steak.

I ordered it rare and it come rare but it was not seared properly, the grill definitely was not hot enough when they cooked it so its had that grey look that comes from not browning properly.

The kids loved their pizza. I even stole a slice and it was done so well, with a generous amount of toppings and the base was on point. It was cocktail weather so my wife had a Strawberry and Lime Mojito and was super impressed.

I am really looking forward to heading back to see what else they have to offer as soon as possible.
