Dreaming of Africa at Decorex

Bulelwa Mvulana from Salt Rock was one of four interior designers chosen to create a home space

Warm, cozy colours mixed with soothing pastels, fun prints, lots of African earthy tones and a touch of glamour was the dreamy look created by a leading Ballito designer at last weekend’s Decorex Durban show.

Bulelwa Mvulana from Salt Rock was one of four interior designers chosen to create a home space using the Canvex “Conscious Environment” theme as part of the Décor District at Decorex.

“We were inspired to style a bedroom inline with this year’s Decorex theme ‘Make your space your living dream’.”

“As we almost always dream in our bedrooms, we thought this would be the perfect space to capture this theme,” said the inspired and driven Mvulana, who is the owner of Mi Africa Décor Experience in Ballito.

“Our Canvex wallpaper design is inspired by Africa with a circular pattern that symbolises dream bubbles.

“We have used a warm colour palette in our choice of paint to create a calming effect for dreaming.

“We collaborated with Origins in the Ballito Lifestyle Centre to ensure that our products are locally made and/or designed with an African flair.”

She said she was thrilled to be given a bedroom to design, as this is her favourite room in a home.

“The bedroom is the place where I retire and rejuvenate after a long day, so it has to be a space that makes you feel instantly at home and relaxed. Choosing a warm colour palette for the bedroom is important as this encourages peaceful rest. Also we need to declutter our bedrooms to create space for dreams to unfold.”
