Meet the North Coast’s innovative kid vlogger

So far, fans have spent more than 55 hours on Ben's channel

Inspired by American kid vloggers doing toy reviews and crafts on YouTube, yet frustrated that those toys and ingredients are not available locally, Ben from Ballito started his own vlog.

Bring it on Ben‘ was born at the beginning of the year and features eight-year-old Ben exploring cool places, testing products and making projects that SA families can access and enjoy too.

So far, people have spent more than 55 hours on Ben’s channel, watching his videos with the Wild Coast Sun Wild Waves Water Park being the most watched video so far with over 300 views.

“I enjoy going to fun places and figured other kids will like it too, so we video it. Making things is my favourite. I recently learnt how to weave when we visited Zulu Nyala (near Hluhluwe) and now I weave all the time,” said Ben, whose videos include making sock puppets, DIY slime and riding in a limo with his mates.

His mom, Carla films Ben using her phone or a GoPro and edits the videos slightly with Ben’s approval, of course.

“The best movies seem to be the ones that happen naturally, capturing things he is genuinely interested in. Being a kid, Ben says it like it is and responds according to his mood. There is no PR talk or directed shots, Ben is just Ben,” said Carla, who was quite nervous about letting her young son go online.

“My husband and I were reluctant to let Ben start this channel, because of personal safety issues, but we understood that it would be more fun to watch a locally made channel than the overseas stuff. His channel is on Kids YouTube, which is specifically curated to be child friendly and we make sure not to mention his surname or the school he goes to, to protect his personal security.”

Ben has been invited to review various places for his channel and his mom said they will try and add one new video a week.
