Cutting edge fashion for charity
The annual Sunflower Fund Charity Ball will be held this month
Elite fashion designer and former Ballito resident Bianca Warren is putting her brilliant skills to the test for the annual Sunflower Fund Charity Ball this month.
Warren is among five designers who have been given the task of creating a glamorous item which will be awarded to people who have made a significant difference to The Sunflower Fund, at the high-profile fund-raising event on Friday, May 26 at Durban’s Elangeni & Maharani Hotel.
Warren, who matriculated from Crawford College North Coast in 2003, fuelled her love for the fashion industry while travelling abroad after school.
“Travelling inspires me a lot. I love exploring big cities to draw inspiration on an international level, getting familiar with trends for my commercial range, as well as finding small remote unusual spots seeing their cultures, foods, fabrics and colours,” said Warren.
“I always come back feeling alive and this helps inspire me for my niche market where I make once off garments.”
Sunflower Fund
As an ambassador for the Sunflower Fund, Warren holds the nonprofit organisation very close to her heart.
“The incredible, dedicated and devoted team behind this foundation is what makes it so special and their hard work does not go unnoticed.
“The Fund’s work aims to give all South Africans diagnosed with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders a better chance of finding matching stem cell donors in order for them to be treated and, hopefully, cured.
“Learning more about this incredible foundation each year and help creating awareness is my small way to pay back.
“Each challenge and design I get to make whether it be a gift, gown or an item to auction is always so exciting and fun.”
Funds raised from the event will enable The Sunflower Fund to create awareness, educate and recruit stem cell donors to increase the number of people registered on the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).
Tickets are available at R700 each or R7,000 for a table of 10, which includes KWV sparkling wine on arrival, a gourmet three course meal, a gift for each lady from Elizabeth Arden and a night of amazing entertainment.
