Karen does it for the ladies

Ballito's Karen Landman took the title of first princess at the national Mrs Grand SA competition

Local entrepreneur, business women and teacher Karen Landman made Ballito proud when she took the title of first princess at the national Mrs Grand SA competition.

Held in Roodepoort, Johannesburg on June 15, Mrs Grand SA was a female empowerment contest that aimed to motivate women to bring about positive change in the country.

Out of the 10 finalists who competed for the Mrs Grand SA title, only three were chosen as the creme of the crop.

Landman now has the chance to compete in the international version of the competition that will be held overseas next year.

The 43-year-old, who is also the proud owner and coach of Simply Models Agency in Ballito, said she planned to use her new title to help young women in disadvantaged communities.

“The competition created a great platform for women empowerment. I will be going to schools to empower our youth by teaching them confidence, public speaking, job interview skills along with other helpful skills.

“My goal is to help young women to develop a sense of pride and prepare them for the job market.”

As part of the Mrs Grand SA competition, the mother of three has hosted many events which focus on self-development.

Wearing many hats, she has for years gracefully juggled day to day responsibilities, maintained a career and been involved with charities such as Reach for a Dream Slipper Day and Queen for a Day, CANSA Shavathon, Cupcakes for Kids with CANSA and The Miss Ballito pageant.
