Ballito beauty in Jamaica
Roxanne Wang was named Miss United Nations (UN) South Africa 1st princess in June
Local beauty Roxanne Wang was named Miss United Nations (UN) South Africa 1st princess in June and also, as Miss UN Africa, is currently competing for the world crown in Jamaica.
She took second spot in the Miss UN SA pageant in Johannesburg City Hall on June 17.
It was after winning Miss UN SA 1st princess that the 27-year-old caught the eye of the organisers and was nominated to take part in Jamaica as Miss Africa UN against some of the most beautiful women in the world.
“I was quite surprised in Jo’burg because I didn’t feel nervous at all,” Wang told The Courier.
Wang said she started modelling at 22 but took a little break before joining Ballito’s Simply Models last year.
“I like to think of myself more as a philanthropist than as a model – that’s the fantastic thing about these pageants, they give you a platform to really make a difference in the world.”

At the moment, Wang is using her position to raise funds for the Haven of Rest charity organisation in Tongaat.
Haven of Rest offers foster care, a halfway house, hospice, medical centre, HIV/AIDS testing and counselling, skills development, a resource and distribution centre and so much more on a day to day basis.
Born in Vereeniging, Wang has lived in KZN since she was six and attended Danville Park Girls High. She is the owner of Spa d’Ambience in Sheffield.
Wang said she is fired up to steal the crown in Jamaica.
“If I win, I can get involved in international charities and will have more of a platform to grow the charities that I’m working with at the moment.”
Wang thanked Karen Landman of Simply Models, her fiancé Trevor Parkinson and everybody who has supported her so far in her march to the title.
