Crawford musicians warm up for Hilton Arts Festival

Crawford North Coast pupils will add musical flavour and rhythm to the Hilton Arts Festival this weekend.

Local young musicians are getting ready to trek up the hill for one of their biggest performances yet – The Hilton Arts Festival.

Performing on Saturday, Hilton Arts Festival goers can look forward to The Crawford North Coast Drummers, a collaboration of drummers between the College and the Preparatory schools.

Download the full festival programme here.

Led by KZNPO percussionist Stephan Pechoux, the drumming creates an exhilaration of rhythm that pulsates through the school grounds on regular occasions and is sure to get the festival folk tapping their feet and moving to the beat.

The Crawford College drummers, from left (back), James Ricell, Luyanda Zwane, Tim Wishart and their teacher Stephan Pechoux. Sitting down in the front are the Preparatory drummers, Mackenna Moonsamy, Khethelo Khuzwayo, Dhirvan Seevnarayan, Aerin Reddy and Anelisa Maphumulo, (absent Luc Reddy).

Each drummer receives both individual and group opportunities using improvisation skills and reading drum score.

Also look out for the Crawford Preparatory North Coast pupils known as the hors d’oeuvres (starters).

They will definitely give you a delicious taste of their musical mix featuring guitars, keyboard, violin and saxophone.
