“Hello M” to represent KwaDukuza at traditional music awards

Jokes aside, Hello M, a SATMA nominee, is pleading with North Coast residents to vote for him before Friday

Natural born KwaDukuza comedian Sthembiso Mtshali is taking the entertainment world by storm, never failing to leave his audience in stitches.

Known as “Hello M,” he believes that comedy is in his DNA because even at school other pupils would burst into laughter whenever he spoke in class.

The humble 25 year old has been nominated at the 2017 South African Traditional Music Awards in the indigenous comedian category, to be held at Mahikeng this coming weekend.

He said his comedy career started in 2009 when he took part in a comedy competition at the KwaDukuza Town Hall.

The Banguni Secondary School matriculate said although he has not achieved much, with the support he has been getting around KZN, he believes the future still holds something great for him.

“I am called Hello because, during my first performance, people did not respond when I greeted them in Isizulu, however when I said ‘hello’, that was when I had their attention. Therefore, I kept on saying ‘hello’, throughout my performance. From that day I had been called Hello.”

Like any other job, being a comedian comes with its own challenges. For Hello M, people are finding it hard to believe him even when he is not making a joke.

“They just laugh, even if I am trying to have a serious conversation with people. I fail to understand why people think that you can go around throwing jokes everywhere you go. There are times and places for me to make jokes.”

Jokes aside, Hello M is pleading with North Coast residents to vote for him before Friday.

He thanked KwaDukuza municipality for supporting him since the announcement of his nomination. KDM had designed posters encouraging people to vote for Hello M.

To vote SMS SATMA, “Hello M best indigenous comedian” to 34066. SMS costs R1.50.
