WATCH: It’s about the bass – no treble!
The KwaDukuza cop with a very deep voice is passionate about music and is a member of the KZN SAPS choir
As much as constable Sbusiso Khuzwayo from KwaDukuza SAPS has a job to protect the public, he can also cheer them up with his basso profundo voice.
The cop with a very deep voice is passionate about music and is a member of the KZN SAPS choir.
“I used to sing with my grandmother when I was still a boy. She is the one who instilled love for music in me,” said Khuzwayo.
After joining the police force five years ago, Khuzwayo thought he should forget about his passion for music and concentrate on arresting criminals. However, he struggled to hold back his feelings for music and he went to auditions for the Durban SAPS choir.
He later went to audition for the KZN choir and he was selected as a soloist.
“At the Durban choir, I am the only one singing the basso profundo bass. We recently took the third position at the provincial competition in Maritzburg.”
In the KZN choir, Khuzwayo was singing two songs at a national SAPS choir competition held on September 23. He was singing in Venda and Italian.
“The funny part is that I actually can’t speak Venda or Italian, but I can sing in these languages.”
The Venda song is about HIV and AIDS and the importance of representing your wife as a man. The Italian is the Queen of angels, “Regina.”
When Khuzwayo was still in school, he was a member of a band called the Golden Voices, which favoured blues songs, and was a member of the KwaDukuza choir.
Although he is a member of the Nazareth Baptist Church, known as the Shembe church, Khuzwayo said he had been approached by other church organisations around KwaDukuza to sing in their choirs.
“So my deep voice is actually working for me.”
The multi-talented Khuzwayo said his job is a very challenging and stressful, therefore it always good to find something to de-stress and for him, music is the best medicine.
The hilarious and outgoing police officer is also a very dedicated and passionate entrepreneur. He is the owner of Mdwebo Signs and Designs company that deals with branding and digital printing.
He was one of the 2015 Ilembe Chamber Entrepreneur Competition finalists.
