Shopping with a twist in Ballito

Castaway Love recently opened at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre

Following the motto “one girl’s castaway garment is another girl’s lovely treasure” the two quirky ladies with their twanging lingo and fun Facebook videos opened their new store, Castaway Love at Lifestyle Centre on Sunday.

Ballito based sister-in-laws, Tanya Stanissis and Mandy Gray turned their bargain hunting skills into a business when they opened their first shop specializing in pre-loved clothing in Umhlali last year.

“We love fashion and second hand shopping has always been our thing. Do not take us to a mall, we want to go to the weird little stores and dig. Finding a Trenery top for R20 is just the ultimate treasure,” said Stanissis, who loves skinny jeans, big necklaces and earrings.

Catering for ladies of all age groups, from kiddies to grannies in all sizes, this clothing experience is about affordable, sustainable fashion which also helps you clear out your cupboard.

Yvonne Stanissis, Cynthia Ngwenya and Nondu Masondu hunting for bargains.

This is how it works: pack your gently-worn clothing into a bag and take it to Castaway Love. They will select what they want to buy from you and make an offer. What they don’t use is donated to local charities.

“Our highlight is a new bag coming in, which happens at least once a day. We feel like kids at Christmas when we open it together. You never know what you are going to get.

“The other day we had a 1930’s vintage dress from Hollywood! We have Zara, TopShop, Jenny Button and other beautiful brands selling at R100 depending on the item,” said Stanissis with a naughty chuckle.

Gray said while their clothing is affordable, they are not in it to get clients to buy everything just because it is cheap.

Candice Shar did not miss out on the bargains at Castaway Love in the Lifestyle Centre.

“We don’t want people to say they got their outfit from us and then it doesn’t look good. We are honest with our clients and tell them if something does not suit them. People often phone us in a panic because they have a wedding this weekend and need an outfit. We quickly pull out some items we know would look good and go from there. Shopping with us is a process, not just a quick grab and go,” said Gray, who always looks out for vintage dresses because of their beautiful patterns and high quality material.

Apart from their bargain buys, the two ladies also enjoy entertaining their social media followers with their weird and wonderful videos which usually involve some crazy outfits and of course their very own slang mix.
