Sokkie for a cause at Leef Gemeente

"Some of the woman we are raising funds for do not have enough money to pay for the shelter and a plate of food."

Leef Gemeente church based in Salt Rock will be hosting a vibrant evening of sokkie and langarm, in aid of vulnerable women living on the streets of Durban.

The fundraiser is set to take place at Curro Mount Richmore School on November 4 at 6pm, to raise awareness for the Hope’s Anchor NGO in Durban that aims to get women and young girls off the streets and under a safe roof.

Organiser of the event Melanie Maritz said people are welcome to bring along their picnic baskets, as there will be no food or alcohol stands.

Entrance is R100 per adult and at no cost for children.

“Some of the woman we are raising funds for do not have enough money to pay for the shelter and a plate of food.

“These women have seen the worst of the worst and have no other choice than to be prostitutes to pay for food, a safe place to sleep and to feed their families.

“Hope’s Anchor aims to get these girls off the streets, off drugs and help them get back in to society with a roof over their head and a job they can be proud of. We would like to invite people to do their part to help them.”
