Pizza tossing soul music
What do you get when you mix clothing design, live performances, flying pizzas and the soulful tunes of some real South African reggae?
Meet the one and only Master P.
Petros ‘Master P’ Mantutle is a performing artist with a difference who has been winning fans across KwaDukuza both for his velvety voice and, unexpectedly, for the aerial acrobatics he can perform with pizzas.
“Whether I am working with food or music, it is all about art,” he told the Courier.
Thursday evenings will usually see Master P down in the Hive in lower Ballito Village, where he keeps the vibe pumping by performing his original, truly South African reggae, R&B and hip-hop.

“I like to sing about real things, true things in each of our lives. My most popular song is probably ‘Injabulo’ (happiness) which I have performed at the Albert Luthuli Centre and is getting quite a lot of support.”
Master P said he draws inspiration from the people around him as well as other musicians such as Bob Marley, Brenda Fassie, John Legend, Lucky Dube and Sankomata.

His father instilled a passion for music in him while he was still young, and Mantutle said he has been singing since the first notes of Do-Ray-Mi in grade one. The youngest of eight children, Mantutle learned to be tough and to stand out at a young age.
“The music industry, especially on a local level, is very tough. Everyone is on top of their game, so you have to find a way to stick out of the crowd.”
And stand out he certainly does.
His love of designing saw him start customising his own clothes, which looked so funky that soon other people started bringing him theirs to apply his talent with hand stitching.
He is also rather well known for the stunts he performs while whipping up delicious pizzas – sending bases flying through the air.
“I have been making pizzas for nearly 15 years. When I was making pizzas in Zimbali I would do tricks with the bases and customers would come in to watch. I just started playing and then took it from there, turning it into another kind of performance art.”
Mantutle now has his own mobile pizza business, Petros Pizza, which sees him bring his fantastic, flying, pizza-making performance to events as well as offering training on pizza making.
He is currently employed for his pizza-prowess at Umhlali Country Club.
“God gave me this passion and these gifts, now I have to give them back to the people around me.” Contact him at 062 682 6335 or petrospizza44@gmail.com.
