Groutville rose vies for Commonwealth pageant title
Samukelisiwe Mpatha is one of the KZN finalists in the Mrs Commonwealth SA pageant.
Stepping out of your comfort zone can be both challenging and rewarding, just ask aspiring Groutville’s beauty queen Samukelisiwe (Sam) Mbatha.
Mbatha is one of the KZN finalists in the Mrs Commonwealth SA pageant.
“This is my first pageant so I am quite nervous,” she told the Courier.
“At the same time, this is me becoming who I was designed to be by conquering my fears.” Mbatha said one of the main reasons she decided to take part in the pageant was as a platform to do good in the community.

“Mrs Commonwealth SA is run in support of the Pinc Drive, which helps women suffering from breast cancer.”
Mbatha also selected the Smile Foundation as her personal charity during the pageant.
“I am a mother and seeing my child smile opens up the whole world for me.
“If I can be even a small part in making a child smile – and letting a mom see her child smile – it would make me so happy, it is still a little surreal to me.”
Mbatha is using the opportunity the pageant has given her to also set up her own organisation, the Higher Trinity Foundation.
“Basically, we will be cheerleaders for existing charities, supporting them and helping them raise funds.”
The final round of the Mrs Commonwealth SA pageant will take place in October this year at the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.
