Tongaat’s Melanie holds the power of the sash
The Glow TV Mrs India South Africa 2018 winner will walk away with prizes up to the value of R500 000.
Her drive to empower women and give them a voice has won her a spot as a finalist in the annual Glow TV Mrs India South Africa 2018.
Tongaat resident Melanie Pillay said she has always been involved in outreach work and being a finalist in this competition has helped her with her mission.
“Glow TV Mrs India South Africa is a pageant that goes beyond beauty and focuses on giving strong women the platform to give other women a voice. It is about uplifting the worth of women and building them up to be role models while giving back to their community,” said Pillay, who works at Seaward Estates in Ballito.
“The sash itself carries a lot of weight and I am using this voice wherever I can.”
The proud mother of two sons – Carlen Christopher (16) and Breyton (12) – said her motivation to help others comes from her children.
“My kids say I am their role model, which is so encouraging and makes me want to get out there to more women and children and help make a difference in their lives.”

community
Pillay has been involved in various community programmes in rural areas to educate children about the power of prayer and to talk to women about the importance of being independent.
“I pray about everything and share the importance of putting God at the centre of your life – you will still go through storms, but you will grow with them.

“I have faced many trials and tribulations and I am grateful for them, because they taught me lessons that I can share with others going through the same tough times.
“Women need to be able to deal with life’s curve balls and find strength at their darkest times.”
The competition is open to any Mrs between 24 and 46 years old.
All finalists will be doing community outreach events and the judges will decide who the winner is based on how much they gave back to their community and how well they carried themselves in the process.
The Glow TV Mrs India South Africa 2018 winner will walk away with prizes up to the value of R500 000 and will be announced on August 25 at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban.
