Classic meets jazz

With a classical start and a jazzy end, the recent Music Revival concert at Ashton’s Grace Hall was a feast for the ears.
KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s (KZNPO) principal flute Sabine Baird mesmerized the audience with the beautiful sound of her 14 karat rose gold flute as she played Gluck’s Dance of the Blessed Sprits, Sicillienne by Gabriel Faure, the jaunty Badinerie by J.S Bach, and Bizet’s Entr’acte to Act III from Carmen with Christopher Duigan accompanying her on the piano.

Percussionist Stephane Pechoux (drums) and Yuri Litvinenko (bass) – both KZNPO members – joined Duigan and Baird on the stage for the second half of the concert featuring an intriguing piece by French jazz composer Claude Bolling.
