Nedbank North Coast running club jogs into town

Former Comrades Marathon winner and national manager of Nedbank running clubs, Nick Bester, is delighted that the North Coast is now on their grid.

You may have heard there’s a new running club in town.

While it might be a recent arrival on the North Coast, its name carries weight in running circles.

The Nedbank North Coast Running Club is officially up and running, with regular weekly time trials and track training taking place in Salt Rock.

Former Comrades Marathon winner and national manager of Nedbank running clubs, Nick Bester, is delighted that the North Coast is now on their grid and sees a bright future for the brand with the growing community of active runners in the region.

While many of the country’s top marathon runners wear the club’s iconic green running kit, Bester emphasised that he does not want Nedbank North Coast Running Club to be seen only as a club for elite athletes, but rather a community club for runners of all abilities, ages and fitness levels.

The club hosted a fun run over 4 routes on Sunday morning, starting at Yami’s at the New Salt Rock shopping centre. The distance was 20km and was made all the more fun with shots of Apple Sours prior to the start of the run.

Under the stewardship of locals Dave Flood, Duane Dicks and Willa van den Heever, the club has found a home at Curro Mount Richmore.

Head of primary school sport, Mike van Buuren, is excited about the club also serving as a launchpad for local schools’ athletics talent.

The club invites all keen North Coast runners and families to join them for free weekly running events at Curro at 1 New Salt Rock Drive.

Time trials are held on Tuesdays at 6pm (4km and 8km options), and track training on Thursdays at 6pm.
