Gallery launches May exhibition: A Palette of Possibilities

The exhibition is centred around a series of paintings by former gallery curator, Jane Digby.

All of the world’s greatest paintings once started as a blank canvas.

Before any outlines, brush strokes or final touches, there was just A Palette of Possibilities.

That is the theme of the latest exhibition at The Gallery at Lifestyle Centre, which will run from May 1 to June 1, with the First Thursdays event on May 2.

Andile Ngcobo is part of the fantastic offering at the newest exhibition.

Centred around a series of paintings from former gallery curator, Jane Digby, the exhibition explores the link between human nature and experiences and how they translate to the canvas.

“Through life’s highs and lows, just as a painting takes on its shape and form through positives and negatives, soft and hard edges, thin and thick paint, each life takes its course,” said Digby.

“At times our paths are clear, at others, it seems like a maze of options. So too, the life of a painting begins with inspiration, with a blast of guided intuition, then unforeseen factors come into play and the painting takes on a life of its own, with unknown outcomes but exciting, exhilarating journeys.”

One of Jane Digby’s pieces that will be on show.

Other painters on show include Gift Dlamini, Petra Gevers, Sarah Jordan, Andile Ngcobo and Anne Schwankhart-Mariethoz.

There are also an exciting series of sculptures to view, from Frank Nthunya, Phumlani Nyawo, Sam Pitout, Refreshed Ceramics, Jacky McLennan, The Dlamini Collection and more.

The First Thursdays launch starts at 6pm, with live music by Quiet Storm and a wine tasting by Lifestyle TOPS.

Anne Schwankhart-Mariethoz’s distinctive artworks will be back for the next month.

The Gallery is otherwise open daily from 9am-5pm.
