Police foil robbers after Stanger Manor home invasion
One person was killed in a shoot-out near Lindelani.
A suspected robber was fatally shot, and his accomplice apprehended during a shoot-out with KwaDukuza police last week Wednesday.
The two men were linked to a home invasion earlier that day in Stanger Manor, during which a family was held at gunpoint and their personal belongings such as cellphones, laptops, jewellery and cash were stolen.
According to iLembe police spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson, police intercepted a vehicle in Doesburg near Lindelani township outside Stanger, after receiving a tip-off.
“The men opened fire on the two police officers. One suspect sustained fatal wounds during the shoot-out, while the other was apprehended,” said Thomson.
The arrested suspect faces multiple charges, including house robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of ammunition. Police also recovered a 9mm Norinco firearm, eight live rounds of ammunition and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. The suspect will appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court soon.
KwaDukuza district commissioner major general Anthony Gopaul praised the swift coordination and cooperation of law enforcement in bringing the suspects to justice.
