Habig and White continue flawless start to season with Swartland rally double win

The reigning SA Rally champions have laid down a firm marker in the opening rounds.

A double victory in the Swartland has kept Ballito’s favourite rally drivers unbeaten in the 2026 rally season.

Benjamin Habig and Barry White won rounds two and three of the SA Rally Championship as part of the King Price Swartland Rally in the Western Cape last weekend.

Friday’s race saw teams take on a course around Riebeeck Kasteel. Driving their 4WD VW Polo NRC1, Habig and White faced early pressure from Wilro Dippenaar and Carolyn Swan, who won the opening two stages. Strong driving through the remaining stages saw the reigning SA champions claw back time and secure victory by just over eight seconds.

“The roads were fast and slippery, so we didn’t want to take risks early on,” said Habig.

“On the second pass there was more grip and we could really push. The support from spectators in the Cape is always incredible – true motorsport lovers and so much gees.”

The action continued on Saturday around Malmesbury. Habig and White were in fine form, securing the win by 53 seconds to tighten their grip on the championship standings.

“The stages today were very fast and more technical. We were second on the road, and fortunately there was no dust, but it certainly helps when the road has been swept,” said Habig.

“The car was faultless all weekend and the whole team did an incredible job.”

With maximum points from the opening rounds, Habig and White have laid down an early marker for their competition.

“We are thrilled to have clinched these events and they offer valuable points to bank. With rallying being so unpredictable, maximum points from events early in the year is a huge positive.”
