Corporates battle it out in cook off

Wielding a spatula and pan these corporate gurus compete in cooking competition.

HIRSCH’S Corporate Cook Off finals held on Saturday at Hirsch’s Umhlanga saw the best of the corporate world come out not only to cook but to have fun. First Technology walked off with top honours after batting it out with staffers from Alexander Forbes.

“There are a lot of corporate buildings around here so we thought let’s try build some spirits among our neighbours in the area,” said Allan Hirsch, founder and CEO of the retail giant, Hirsch’s.

His sentiments were echoed by his wife, Margaret Hirsch and the company’s Chief Operations Officer who said the competition was about ‘having fun, being creative and building a team initiative’.

The competing teams had to cook a three course meal within two hours that comprised of a calamari dish for starters, a chicken dish for mains and a dessert of their choice. The main ingredient for the day was almond butter and needed to be included in each dish.

“It was stressful and crazy but it was fun. It brought our team together and it was amazing seeing everyone’s strengths coming through” said Samantha Hattingh, a contestant for First Technology.”

“I am ecstatic and so proud. This has created such an atmosphere in the office,” said Kerry-Ann Smit, of First Technology.
