Durban North library reopens its doors

The relocated and refurbished library has reopened its doors within the Kensington Square shopping centre after its temporary closure.

THE Durban North Library officially reopened its doors on Wednesday (July 1) after it was relocated within the Kensington Square shopping centre in Durban North.

The library initially temporarily closed on April 13 for six weeks for renovations in the new space.

While renovations took a little longer than the planned six weeks, the vital resource has reopened, much to the delight of head librarian Veni Reddy.

“The relocated and refurbished library has a nice modern feel and we are so happy to welcome everyone back. We’ve got a lot of programmes planned for the library in the future as well as holiday programme to roll out. We are also appealing to anyone who’d like to donate books to do so if they are able to,” she said.

Meanwhile, Reddy has reassured residents and library users that there will be no fines for those who’ve had books out since the closure on April 13.

“There is no accumulation of fines. Some people have already made use of the drop off slot but you can now begin returning books borrowed before we temporarily closed our doors,” she said.

  • On Friday, July 3 the library will host the first of its holiday programmes with crafts, story time and games for children between five and 12 years from 10:00 until midday.
