A 65-year-old businessman and his co-accused, 48-year-old Rangasamy Naidoo, were granted bail in the Durban Regional Court on Wednesday (August 26) in connection with a human trafficking case involving alleged victims from Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

Magistrate Sharon Marks granted the businessman bail of R50 000, while Naidoo was granted bail of R100 000.

As part of their bail conditions both men must report to their nearest police station every Monday and Friday, surrender their passports and may not interfere with witnesses.

The men face serious charges arising from allegations that victims were lured from Eldorado Park to Durban with the promise of work selling SIM cards.

The victims were allegedly instead forced into sexual exploitation at a property on Stirling Crescent in Durban North.

Naidoo faces charges including human trafficking, kidnapping, cybercrime, crimen injuria and procurement for prostitution.

His co-accused faces 20 charges, including sexual assault. He cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charges.

The matter was postponed to October 22.
