MOUNT Edgecombe resident Gordon Reid was among a group of runners to take part in the Run for Rangers event which took place earlier this year.

In all, R549 458 was raised to provide practical support to conservation rangers and anti-poaching operations across KZN.

Reid took part in the annual trail running adventure in KZN which sees competitors run 100km over two days through the Babanango Game Reserve.

The event brings together runners, conservationists and supporters in a shared effort to support the people working on the frontline of wildlife protection.

“I’ve now done three Run for Rangers events, and it has become a permanent fixture on my calendar. I love the challenge, the cause, the people involved, and knowing that we’re helping protect South Africa’s incredible wildlife,” he said.

Over the past three years he has raised around R120 000.

“The funds have been managed by the fantastic team at Project Rhino under Carlien Roodt, ensuring every rand supports meaningful conservation work.”

He added that running 100km through Babanango alongside rangers and conservationists was a special experience.

The 53-year-old added that raising funds for the rangers was also a way of securing a legacy for future generations.

“We run 100km over two days, but rangers do similar distances while tracking armed poachers with none of the support we enjoy. The work these rangers do is extraordinary, and I want future generations, including my children and grandchildren, to enjoy the wildlife they’re protecting. As long as I can help raise awareness and funds, I’ll keep coming back.”
