WITH just days to go, organisers of the Dube Tradeport Trail Run have encouraged participants to take on the challenge of this year’s event in Mount Moreland.

Participants can choose between the 7km (Dube Queen Nandi Walk/Run) and 10km (Dube King Shaka Run) options.

Buzz Bolton of Riverside Trail, and one of the organisers of the event, said both routes are non-technical and perfect for those looking to end their trail running calendar on a high.

“This year we celebrate the fifth running of the event which falls during Heritage Month. This venue is ideal for trail running and walking and it offers all the requirements needed for the sport. The only thing we are missing is a river crossing but we are working on that,” Bolton said.

“Both the 7km and 10km options have panoramic views of the ocean and rolling hills. Hopefully participants will experience some planes flying overhead during the event. Eric Ngubane, who has won most of the 10km races, is the one to beat at this year’s event.”

The event also has the backing of Umhlanga Tourism and its chairperson, Naomi Crous.

“What is fantastic is this event is for everyone. It has something for the competitive athletes but it also has something for those who aren’t runners. If you want to enjoy the fresh air and be out in nature then this is the event for you as long as you have good strength. I’m going to take part myself and I’m looking forward to what Buzz has planned.”

• The Dube Tradeport Trail Run takes place on Sunday, September 20. The cost to enter is R50 for the 7km and R80 for the 10km. The race starts at 06:00 and entries are still available. There will be water tables on the route.
