Locals tee off to raise funds for Beachwood and uMhlanga reserve
The funds raised from the golf day will go towards various projects at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve.
MORE than 100 golfers, with a shared purpose of supporting conservation, took part in the Mica Hardware Durban North Charity Golf Day on Wednesday.
The golf day, held at the Royal Durban Golf Club, was organised by Andre Lindeque, the owner of Mica Durban North.
In all R150 000 was raised for the newly established MICA Durban North Environmental Trust.

The Trust was created to support the maintanence and protection of the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve as well as the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of fellow businesses, individuals and sponsors,” explained Lindeque. “All last cent of what we raised today will go towards the nature reserves. In some countries they plant trees for future generations and in a similar way we hope the funds raised here today will go towards preserving two of nature’s gems for future generations.”
The golf day was organised by fellow resident Andrew Shedlock, and Gords Reid was MC for the event.
The North Durban Honorary Officers, a group of volunteers that work in conservation efforts at the reserves, were also present on the day.
