Burst pipe floods Glen Anil home for fourth time
A Glen Anil couple is at their wits’ end after burst water pipes outside their home caused flooding for the fourth time.
A GLEN Anil couple says they are at their wits’ end over burst water pipes outside their home which has now been flooded four times.
The most recent incident occurred last week, flooding their pool, driveway and garage with sand and water.
Vaughan Williams and Brigitte Kruger said the water had also flooded the lower section of their home, causing thousands of rands worth of damage to appliances and furniture.

“We had just redone the pool and our kitchen following the last flooding and sadly the burst has undone most of what we replaced and fixed. We can now measure the different flooding incidents by the water marks left on our walls. Both Brigitte and I become anxious whenever we hear any running water because this has happened so many times. The City had only just paid us out for damages for the last burst when this occurred. Alongside our gardener we’ve worked to remove mounds of sand that has flooded our pool and driveway,” explained Williams.
“While our house has been flooded four times, the main water pipe outside our home has burst five times and we fear it will happen again. When municipal teams excavated to attend to the most recent burst you could see the previous sections where the plastic/PVC components were used and there is one remaining section of asbestos pipe right outside our main gate which hasn’t been replaced. We know from past experience that this in time will burst too, which again will enter our home.”
According to Kruger, the latest burst occurred at about 02:00.

She said the couple fears the bursts are undermining the property’s foundation and there were signs of subsidence in the yard with brick walkways and tree roots being uprooted.
In a comment to Northglen News last week on frequent bursts in the area, City spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila, said the City acknowledges that the age of the existing infrastructure is a concern and has contributed to the need for pipe replacement.
