M19 protest update

M19 has been reopened says police.

POLICE and the emergency services are urging residents to drive cautiously on the M19 which has been reopened this morning. Debris from yesterday’s violent protests is still scattered on the road.

Protesters returned this morning and began burning tyres and stoning vehiclesThe situation remains volatile. 

Earlier this morning protesters were spotted in the vicinity of Gumtree Road and the North Coast Road off-ramp to Avocado Road near the Sasol Garage

Yesterday protestors set fire to a panel beaters and assaulted several people on their way to work.

It’s believed the protesters are unhappy with the ANC candidate list that was announced.
