Annie has been a busy bee for 20 years
Ever since Annie Moodie was a little girl, she dreamed of becoming a teacher and owning her own school.
“I remember teaching all my dolls and teddy bears,” she laughs and on January 8, 2003, Annie’s dream became a reality when she opened Annie’s Busy Beez, starting with 20 children and catering for children from age 2 to 6 years old.
In the same year of her school dream occurred, she married the love of her life Gary Moodie on February 8 of the same year. “When I had my first baby, a daughter Kayla, I needed somewhere for her to stay while I was working. I convinced my husband to give up his garage so I could turn it into a baby room which cared for babies from 3 months to 2 years old and I could have my baby with me .Three years later I welcomed my second baby, another daughter Casey, who who has a love for children like I do, and is always helping at the school.
Over the years the school has grown from strength to strength and many upgrades have been done over the years. In 2013 Annie hosted her first Carnival to raise money for the school which paid for Astro turf on the playground. Since then, the Christmas Carnival has become an annual event in the Durban North community.
“After 16 years we decided to expand the school to accommodate more children. We turned my home, which is on the same property as the school, into the entire school. This has been such a wonderful change and we now have two beautiful playgrounds both with Astro turf and three amazing jungle gyms and an awesome Wendy house.”
The school offers many extra mural activities, with Playball as a compulsory activity, and other activities including pottery, soccer and ballet.
Over Christmas the school was decorated with hundreds of Christmas lights and an elf house was established for the children to post their letters to Santa, and if email addresses were included, Santa even replied to the letter.there is an email address then Santa returns a letter.
“I have passionate staff who are like family and who love each and every child like their own. I have met wonderful people, and some have even become good friends. I thank my wonderful husband and my girls for all their love and support, this school could not have survived without you,” said Annie.
