Patron alleges unfair treatment after attire dispute at Malvern pub

The establishment claims that the woman was never asked to leave but the woman alleges that a staff member requested that she leave based on what she was wearing.

A DISPUTE over dress standards at Musketeers Pub & Grill has sparked public debate after a patron claimed she was unfairly asked to leave due to her outfit, while the establishment maintains it acted appropriately in response to complaints from other guests.

Amber Auret took to social media following the incident, expressing frustration over what she described as inconsistent enforcement of a dress code.

Speaking to Queensburgh News, she said she had never been so humiliated in her life.

“I went there with my boyfriend’s mom and sister. We were having a good time. About an hour or so later, the bouncer called me and told me I had to leave because I was making some of the wives jealous because their men were looking at me,” she said.

She said he went on to say that her outfit was inappropriate, that her underwear was showing and then asked her to leave.

“I was wearing a skorts (shorts and a skirt combined). I am 30-years-old and in all my years of socialising, I have never experienced this and such blatant disrespect,” said Auret.

Auret said she had visited the venue multiple times before in similar attire without issue, making the experience feel “really unfair”.

She added that no concerns were raised when she arrived and argued that any dress code should be “clearly communicated upfront and applied consistently, not enforced selectively after the fact.”

“Being asked to leave based on how others might feel is not appropriate, and it made for a very uncomfortable experience. Really disappointing,” said Auret.

Since then the Bellaire resident said she has received both support and backlash from other women on social media.

“Most women have shown support towards me but there are some who said I was asking for attention by wearing that outfit and that I was a Jezebel. Some have even implied that women are being sexually assaulted and raped because of the way they dress which is ridiculous. So the victim is to blame and not the rapist?”

“One woman even told me she would put me in hospital if I ever came in front of her man. I am shocked by these comments because I did not want anyone’s man. I went out to have a good time and was discriminated against.”

In response, Musketeers Pub & Grill released an official statement providing its account of events, saying the situation had been taken out of context following online attention.

“On the evening in question, several patrons approached a member of our security team expressing discomfort regarding another patron’s attire, which they felt was overly revealing in the setting,” the statement read.

The establishment said a staff member approached the patron “discreetly and respectfully to request that she consider covering up,” adding that “at no stage was she asked to leave the premises, nor was the right of admission enforced against her.”

According to the venue, the patron indicated she would leave, but the interaction escalated into a verbal exchange.

Musketeers emphasised that its staff aimed to handle the situation professionally.

“The approach to the patron was conducted in a polite and non-confrontational manner,” the statement said.

The venue also noted that it would not release any footage of the incident, citing respect for privacy, and reiterated its positioning as a community-oriented space.

“While Musketeers Pub & Grill offers music and a vibrant social atmosphere, it is not a nightclub and maintains standards consistent with a family-friendly and community-oriented venue,” the statement said.

The establishment added that its intention was “to balance the comfort of all guests while maintaining a respectful and safe environment,” and expressed regret that the situation escalated.

The incident has since prompted wider discussion online about dress codes, personal expression, and how venues balance individual freedoms with the comfort of other patrons.
