GREENWOOD Park SAPS has warned residents of a recent crime spike in the area.

In Tipuana Drive, on 24 July, would-be robbers returned to the same house where a woman was raped two weeks ago. It is believed it is the same rapists from the previous incident.

Marshall Security attended to the scene and chased the suspects from Casuarina Circle into the bushes behind the Rinaldo garage, where they unfortunately lost them.

Candytuft Grove has been hard done by crime, with two incidents reported to Greenwood Park SAPS.

On 24 July at 2.30am there was a house robbery in Candytuft Grove, Glenhills.

Five robbers entered the property and removed glass from the louver window of the granny flat.

One of the suspects climbed through the burglar guards and opened the door for the other suspects.

They held up an elderly women and young couple with a knife and took various items, as well as 42-inch flat screen tv.

No one was injured, but the victims were very traumatised. Marshall Security, Greenwood Park SAPS, Glenhills Neighbourhood Watch and Durban North Crisis Team was at the house.

Another home was nearly burgled in the same road on 19 July. The owner of the house was in Cape Town when Marshall Security notified him of an attempted burglary at his home.

When he returned, he noticed a padlock had been damaged, but entry was not gained into the house.

“There has been a spate of robberies in the area. We’ve deployed reservists to permanently patrol the area and we urge the community to come on board in the fight against crime,” said Lt Elvis Naidoo, spokesman for Greenwood Park SAPS.

Lt Naidoo added the station is working closely with security companies in the area to fight crime.

He added a number of officers are patrolling the area in marked and unmarked vehicles and urged residents to report any suspicious acitivity.
