Full circle for Bash

Northwood School appoint former headboy, Grant Bashford, coach of the first rugby team.

FOR former Sharks’ assistant coach, Grant Bashford, there was a sense of going full circle as he was recently appointed the first team rugby coach at Northwood School. As an Old Boy and a teacher at the school for 13 years, the former scrumhalf said he was looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s great to be involved with Northwood, it’s a school with strong traditions. Schoolboy rugby has grown exponentially and it has certainly embraced the professional era,” he said.

While Bashford is under no illusions, he is confident the rugby team can turn things around.

“It’s a role that is diversified and I know a turnaround is not going to happen overnight. The school was incredibly successful under Northlands Boys’ High School, so it’s not like the school hasn’t been there. I’m confident we can achieve good results as time goes on,” he said.
