ActionSA councillor Saul Basckin says he wants to bring a results-driven approach to municipal governance.
With the 2026 Local Government Elections just around the corner, councillors will be elected for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities across the country’s nine provinces.
This week, the Northglen News took to the streets of Ward 35 that it covers to meet and greet some of the councillor candidates assigned by the different political parties to compete for the hot seat come the November 4 Local Government Elections.
Ward 35: Prestondale, Izinga, Virginia, Glenashley, La Lucia, uMhlanga/Ridge, Sommerset Park
Saul Basckin is standing under the banner of ActionSA.
Background: I’m a businessman, community activist and serving ActionSA councillor with over 30 years of senior management experience, including Operations Director for a major hotel group. Running a hotel is like managing a small municipality, overseeing maintenance, infrastructure, finances, security, staffing and service delivery.
Experience: I bring extensive operational experience, financial expertise and an excellent understanding of municipal by-laws. I can interrogate budgets, balance sheets and financial statements, challenging questionable municipal figures and expenditure. I’m not a career politician. I understand management, finance and municipal by-laws. I investigate facts, challenge excuses and demand accountability. My commitment is simple: enforce the law, expose corruption, hold officials accountable and get things done. Residents deserve results, not excuses.
