Devnarain appointed KZN women’s coach

THE KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union announced the appointment of Dinesha Devnarain as the new KZN Women’s coach last week. Dinesha, who retired from International cricket after representing the Protea Women’s team for five years, will continue to play for the province in her new role as player and coach.

She made her South African debut in the 2008/2009 season for the World Cup Qualify Tournament and has played 13 ODI’s and 10 T20’s.

Jay Naidoo, Manager of Amateur Cricket at KZNCU, said he was excited to have Dinesha as the provincial women’s coach.

“She comes with a wealth of playing experience both at national and provincial level. As captain of the provincial team, she has displayed very good leadership skills. Dinesha is a first generation of women cricket coaches and we wish her every success in her new appointment.”

Excited on her appointment, Dinesha said, “Leaving international cricket was a tough pill to swallow. One of the highlights of my career was playing at Lord’s and representing my country on the global stage. But I believe I am making the best decision for my future. I feel that I have made a decision that will place me one step away from my ultimate dream of coaching the national women’s team.”

“Looking at the season ahead, the KZN team aims to reach semi-final playoffs for both the T20 and One Day format. But more importantly, my aim is seeing the players progressing and making them better cricketers than the day before.”
