Baby charity drive a success

THE ‘Bless a Baby Spring Charity Drive’ raised more than R20 000 worth of new baby items. The drive was initiated by Tula Baby and ran nationally from September to mid-October 2013.

Communities rallied behind this initiative by buying and donating the more than R20 000 worth of new baby items from participating Baby Boom, Toys R Us and Reggies stores.

All items were donated to the Robin Hood Foundation, an NPO who as its name suggests, takes resources from more fortunate families and redistributes those resources directly into the hands of the poorest of the poor in disadvantaged communities.

Kim Griffith-Jones, the Robin Hood Foundation Coordinator, was overjoyed with the generous donation and explained that the new baby items will be used in their Love The Babies bags which are distributed to underprivileged mothers from Hiv/aids affected communities. “Many of these needy mothers go into

hospital to have their babies with not even a blanket or baby grow,” she said.

“Thank you to each and every person who contributed to the success of this charity drive. Every single blanket, nappy, baby grow, bib, toy and bootie will most definitely bless a needy baby and go a long way towards easing the plight of disadvantaged new mums,” added Kim.

Leigh and Leon Jacobs from Tula Baby said that it was an honour to be able to give back to those less fortunate. “We would like to thank everyone who assisted in making this inaugural campaign such a success and look forward to an even bigger and better charity drive next year!” said Leon.
