Teenager who tried to stop mugging dies after being stabbed in the neck.

A TEENAGE holidaymaker has died after trying to help a woman who was allegedly being mugged outside a local club on Walter Gilbert Road. Nathan Van Reenan (17) was with his friends when they saw a woman being robbed by a man. He tried to help but was stabbed in the neck in the ensuing scuffle. Capt Thulani Zwane, police spokesman, said they are looking for witnesses to aid their murder investigation.

The incident occured on Saturday (7 December) at about 2.35am. “The victim tried to assist the woman and the suspect fled the scene and was chased. During the scuffle, it is alleged the suspect stabbed Van Reenan in the neck. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries,” he said.

A case of murder has been opened and the woman who was being robbed disappeared and has not opened a case.

Police are appealing to any witnesses with information to contact the investigating officer (Warrant Officer Raven Mundhree of Durban Central detective on 031 325 4660 or 0827834760). Information may also be given to the Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
