DA reclaims Wards 34 and 110
The wards were previously held by an Independent Candidate and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party in the lead-up to the LGE.
IN a stunning turnaround the DA has reclaimed Wards 34 and 110 following the conclusion of the Local Government Elections (LGE).
Both wards were previously held by the DA following the last LGE in 2021, however, in subsequent by-elections, Ward 34 was won by an Independent Councillor, Andrew Akkers, while Ward 110 was won by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) candidate Mandla Biyela.
Now the DA councillor candidates, Charles Naidoo (Ward 34) and Rowena Bosman (Ward 110), are set to be announced winners with preliminary results showing them in the lead.
Naidoo replaces Akkers, who joined Action SA ahead of the LGE earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Bosman replaces Biyela, who died after a short illness in September this year.

Naidoo, who has lived in the ward since 1985, said he is committed to the long-term development and well-being of the community.
He has been actively involved in civic and ratepayers’ associations and the Community Policing Forum (CPF), where he served as chairperson, working closely with residents on safety, infrastructure and service delivery issues.
In the lead-up to the LGE, Naidoo said he had four priorities for the ward.
Top four priorities:
1. Fix persistent leaks, improve response times and ensure a reliable and equitable water supply.
2. Address potholes, drainage, electricity and public facilities through proper maintenance and planning.
3. Tackle illegal dumping, improve refuse collection and maintain roads, stormwater systems and open spaces.
4. Advocate for proper housing, services and suitable relocation for residents of informal settlements.
Bosman, meanwhile, has spent over a decade with Lions International, participated in ratepayers’ associations and Community Police Forums, and SGBs.
“Having served as the DA candidate in the 2025 Ward 110 by-election, I remain committed to accountability, practical solutions and responsive governance. Taxpayers’ hard-earned money must be spent wisely on essential services and community needs, not unnecessary vanity projects.”
Her top priorities include safer neighbourhoods for all and improved infrastructure.
Top four priorities
1. Reliable municipal service delivery
2. Improved infrastructure, water in taps.
3. Clean and safe neighbourhoods for all.
4. Effective, responsive communication, and improved animal welfare. I also advocate for consideration of additional policing and traffic monitoring.
It is important to note that before being announced by the IEC, the results undergo an independent audit to ensure accuracy and transparency.
