Heavily armed hijackers on the loose

Armed gang hijack two Durban North families just minutes apart.

SHOTS rang out on the streets of Durban North last night when four gun wielding men hijacked a family and an elderly couple all in a matter of minutes.

One of men was armed with AK47 assault rifles. The men first pounced on a family outside their home on Cambridge Drive. According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell the men were wearing balaclavas and drove up to the car owner in a stolen silver Mercedes Benz and tried to hijack him of his Toyota Hilux.

The man’s family was in the car at the time of attack. Powell said the alert home owner spotted the men and reversed into the Mercedes Benz to avoid falling victim. “He managed to damage the front of the Mercedez but that didn’t deter the suspects who fired three shots at the vehicle to scare the driver into acquiescence. They then drove off in his Hilux and eventually abandoned it in uMgeni Park.”

The men then spotted an elderly couple in uMgeni Park and hijacked them.
