Major disruptions for uMhlanga with pipe project
Local councillor, Heinz de Boer, urges residents to be patient during the pipe replacement project that is expected to end in September.
CONSTRUCTION of Durban’s Northern Aqueduct Augmentation (NAA) Project has started and major disruptions are expected during the construction period.
According to local councillor, Heinz de Boer, the pipe replacement project started on Monday 14 April and will continue into September 2014. The excavation and placemebt will be done across the N2 highway from the Cornubia side, then to Prestondale and Herrwood Drive.
“The pipe will eventually be linked to the water reservoir that has been built close to the Sharks’ Board in Herwood Drive,” he added.
De Boer said the pipe is massive, with a 1.4 metre diameter: “The excavation for the placement of the pipe is a massive project and will cause some traffic inconvenience. There will also be a number of labourers on site. I appeal to motorists to be patient. As much as it may be an inconvenience, the pipe replacement is also vital for enough water supply for the next 20 to 30 years.”
