Shock as Virginia Airshow cancelled

Virginia Airshow cancelled for the first time in 57 years.

THE world’s second oldest airshow, the virginia Air Show has been cancelled. Organisers of the airshow, the Durban Wings Club, said safety standards set down by the Civil Aviation Authority are among the reasons why it has been cancelled.

The voice and organiser of the KZN Winter Air Tour, Brian Emmenis, described the decision to cancel the well known event as one of the ‘darkest days in the aviation industry’.

“I’m shocked and devastated by the news. The Virginia Airshow has been running for 57 years and is one of the best shows in the world. It’s a big blow for the city of Durban and will have huge financial implications. The airshow is responsible for a huge influx of tourists every year,” he said.

This was the third airshow to be cancelled following the Bethlehem and Zandspruit Airshows.
