‘Icy waters helped me win’

Local nipper surpasses all expectations at national tournament.

DURBAN North resident Ally Chislett is someone who does not mince her words. After saying she was aiming to win an event at the SA nipper lifesaving champs, she surpassed that with flying colours, winning two events (swim relay and malibuboard), claiming second position in two events (300m swim relay race and malley) and a third place finish (flags) in her nine events at the champs.

If that wasn’t enough she also earned the competitor of the tournament in the U12 category, an accolade she also won at the KZN champs.

The aquatic superstar, who captained the Suncoast Pirates girls U12 team said one of her biggest motivating factors at the national champs was the weather.

“The water was freezing so I tried to swim faster to get out of the cold,” said a beaming Ally. “It was an extremely competitive and closely fought champs. The closest event was the surf swim which came down to a sprint finish. I’m proud of my team’s performances as well as my own.”

The Suncoast Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club member also helped her team win the U12 category and contributed to the Durban club finishing second overall in the champs.
