New athletics club launched

Crusaders Canoe Club launch running club as running season picks up.

THE Crusaders Running Club was launched recently at their Blue Lagoon club house. Chairman of the newly launche club, Mark Reeves said the new branch stemmed from the Crusaders Canoe Club.

“Most of the athletes at the Canoe Club enjoy multi-sports, they paddle, swim, cycle and run so we found it fitting to create a running club for members who enjoyed running.”

“We are ideally based on the beachfront and have a beautiful promenade as well as a members base of the canoe club to draw on from with great synergy. We draw on each others strengths and use the same constitution and club house as Crusaders Canoe Club,” Reeves explained.

The new club was registered in late March and they have already seen six members participate in the Two Oceans Marathons. “We had novices run and complete the half marathon and they really did the club proud,” Reeves added.

As the canoeing season ended for in April the running club expects to be very busy in the lead up to the Comrades Marathon.
