Suspect opens fire on hotel security guard

Shots ring out in hotel parking lot after security guard is assaulted by seven men.

POLICE are investigating a case of attempted murder after a security guard on duty at the Riverside Hotel was beaten up and shot at in the early hours of Sunday morning. A volley of gunshots reverberated around the parking lot as the panicked security guard ran for his life. He managed to escape unscathed.

It’s alleged six men approached the guard claiming one of their cars had been broken into.

“The men said a window had been smashed and the ignition damaged. However, as the security guard approached the car, he noticed nothing amiss.  The men suddenly began assaulting him and kicking him while he was laying on the ground. One of the bigger men in the assault pulled out a handgun and fired four shots in the guard’s direction,” said LT Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station.

“The security guard fled the parking lot in fear of his life. We believe the men were drunk and that is what sparked the assault. We have recovered three spent cartridges and have secured the number plate of one of the suspects’ vehicle,” he said.

Deokaran added an arrest was imminent.
