Struggle to lift fingerprints: uMgeni Park murder

Murder weapon tossed into pool.

DETECTIVES investigating the brutal killing of uMgeni Park resident Stephen Edmondstone are struggling to trace fingerprints used on the murder weapon. According to the police, the 63-year-old was shot three times by intruders after they broke into his Collard Road home.

Once inside, they began assaulting the resident’s partner, Alvin Meyer who pleaded with the men to take whatever they wanted. According to police when Edmondstone spotted the men, he confronted them and they fired three quick shots in close range.

A laptop was the only item reported stolen, the suspects then fled on foot and were picked up by a getaway vehicle. In their haste to escape, one of the men tossed the murder weapon into the pool.

Greenwood Park SAPS spokesman, Lt Elvis Naidoo said detectives handling the murder were struggling to pick up fingerprints left on the pistol.

“It’s proving very difficult tracing the fingerprints on the murder weapon. There is another set of fingerprints we are trying to trace but as yet there have been no leads,” he said.

Naidoo added police were chasing every lead they had to bring the murderers to justice.
