Turn your bones pink for Jordan

Local resident, Danica Bartho, is cycling this year's Amashova race to raise funds for Jordan Smith, who is battling cancer.

‘WHENEVER we pedal, we are with you’. It’s a message of support that Danica Bartho is hoping other residents will take up as they cycle this year’s Amashova cycle race. The Durban North resident has decided to raise funds for former Virginia Preparatory School pupil, Jordan Smith.

Jordan was diagnosed in April last year with a Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma in his left leg. Doctors recently amputated his leg in order to give Jordan the best chance of survival.

Bartho’s NPO, called Lettie Paddle, is now organising the Lettie Ride in aid of raising funds for the 11-year-old. She is also appealing to cyclists to dedicate their ride to Jordan and trying to get as many friends to sponsor R1 for every kilometre covered.

“We are trying to raise money to help Jordan’s family buy him a prosthetic leg. They cost up to R200 000 and medical aid will only cover 10 per cent of that. I’m also appealing to people to take selfies with the hastag #rideforjordan and send them to Jordan so he can see how many people are behind him.

“We can all make a difference in his fight against cancer and give him hope. The strength you get from knowing that others are behind you and believe in you, is something money can’t buy,” she said.

Another aspect of the race is the intro of pink skeleton cycling outfits for Jordan.

“All profits from the sale of the awesome pink skeleton Lettie ride outfits will go to towards the Jordan fund. The message is to turn your bones pink and show your support for him,” Danica said.
