Promised a job, raped in a sugar cane field

A woman desperate to find a job was raped and then dumped in the sugar cane fields near Sibaya Casino by her rapist.

A MAN claiming to offer a woman a job, drove to a secluded spot in the sugar cane fields near Sibaya Casion and raped her. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

The woman believed to be in her early 20’s was handing out her CV to various hotels along Durban’s beachfront. She was approached by a man, claiming he owned a internet cafe near Verulam. He told her he had a vacancy.

“She then jumped in his car and the man then took the Sibaya Casino offramp before veering off on to a dirt road behind the sugar cane fields. He then pinned her arms at her side and forced her into the back seat, before raping her,” Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said.

“He shoved her out of the vehicle on to her back, and threw her clothes at her. He told her to get dressed. The woman then started putting on her clothes and the man sped off, leaving her in the middle of the field.”

Deokaran added the woman was so traumatised by the incident that she was not able to provide police with any descriptive details. He said she wasn’t able to tell the make or registration of the car that the rapist was driving.

No arrests have been made.
