Jason launches ‘All Things Positive’

Local snake man launches Facebook page to combat negativity.

IT could be a beautiful sunrise over uMhlanga’s whale bone pier or your dog chasing after a frisbee or your grandchild’s first word. The advent of Facebook has been for the most part been largely beneficial in bringing old friends together and connecting new ones, however, it has also meant more negative news being shared and commented on. Nowadays, logging on to Facebook invariably leads to a crime story or news off fighting in some far off land that was shared by one of your friends.

One man has decided he has had enough. Durban North resident and local snake man Jason Arnold recently started his Facebook page called ‘All Things Positive’ in the hope of making people smile and creating a sense of community and love.

The 36-year-old said he was tired of seeing negative stories on the social networking site and decided to take a positive step in changing that. He started the page almost two and half months ago and has already attracted 64 members.

“One small positive thought can change your whole day. Everytime I logged on to Facebook, my news feed was full of stories on crime, animal abuse and shootouts and I wanted that to change. Imagine if people could choose what they wanted to see that makes them smile and make other smile.

“So my first ever post was of a sunrise over uMhlanga’s main beach and a lot of people smile. The reaction so far has been brilliant and a lot of my friends have said this was a cool idea and more pages like this need to be started,” he said.

Arnold said he wanted to celebrate the people of Durban North and uMhlanga and to show residents they can stand make a difference no matter how small.

“The people who have joined the group post a number of photos or inspirational quotes, that inspires or makes them smile and more people get to share that feeling which is just fantastic,” Arnold said.
