Two nabbed with 25 stolen TVs

The TVs were stolen from a shop in Durban's CBD during October last year.

TWO men were arrested on Wednesday after they were found with 25 40-inch Telefunken and Samsung flat screen TVs. Officers from Newlands East SAPS, the Durban Flying Squad and Durban K9 Unit received a tip-off that two vehicles were transporting stolen items.

The vehicles were spotted along Queen Nandi Drive heading towards Newlands West, and were pursued and instructed to stop.

“The men were foreign nationals and failed to account for ownership of the property. Preliminary investigations reveal that the TVs were stolen from a shop in the Durban CBD during October 2014,” said SAPS provincial spokesman, Jay Naicker.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lt General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded police for the arrest and the recovery of the goods.

“We once again appeal to our communities to refrain from buying stolen goods. Those who buy stolen goods encourage these thugs to commit crime, and many innocent citizens lose their lives in the process,” she said.
