Schoeman does it again

Schoeman runs to victory in triathlon in Cape Town.

DURBAN North triathlete, Henri Schoeman, recently won the ATU Sprint Tri African Cup. The race, which was held in Cape Town, saw the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist win in just 59 minutes.

“I do this race every year, and it’s a great race to help me find my feet. It definitely got me fired up, and I had some really good competition from the international guys, who made up eight positions out of the top 10.

“I exited the water first and led through the cycle. In the end it came down to the run, and I had the Austrian athlete, Lukas Hollaus, on my tail. With a kilometre or so to go I pushed hard for the win. I was really pleased with my performances,” he said.

Schoeman said he felt confident ahead of his first ITU series race in Abu Dhabi later this month.

“It was big confidence booster for me, and I’m feeling in good form. All of this is now gearing up for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. I’m determined to make the South African squad and I’m looking forward to the international season ahead,” he said.
