Four injured in URD accident

A mother and her two children, as well as the driver of the other vehicle involved, sustained injuries

FOUR people were injured in an accident on Umhlanga Rocks Drive (between Sunningdale and Somerset Park) on Friday morning. Traffic was affected in both directions as paramedics and police cleared the wreckage from the road.

According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the cause of the accident is being investigated by police.

“A mother and her two children, as well as the driver of the other vehicle involved, sustained injuries. The jaws of life had to be used to get the man out of his car. All four people sustained injuries in the accident and were transported to hospital,” Botha said.

The early morning rush also saw two other accidents. In the first, 17 people were injured after a taxi they were travelling in collided with another motorist on the N2, just before the uMhlanga off-ramp. The Toyota was knocked onto its side and two people sustained serious injuries. The others escaped with minor injuries.

In a separate accident on the M41, just before Gatewaty, a 27-year-old woman was hit while trying to cross the road. She sustained minor abrasions.

The busy road has been the scene of numerous accidents in recent months.

Last month, a motorist travelling on Umhlanga Rocks Drive lost control of his car near the intersection of Somerset Drive and crashed into a wall.
