Guns blaze after M4 high speed chase

Following the high speed chase police were involved in a gun fight near Sibaya Casino. One suspect was arrested.

ALMOST like a scene from a movie, police were involved in a high speed car chase in the early hours of this morning. After a lengthy and dramatic chase, and a gun fight police managed to arrest one suspect. However, his three accomplices are still on the run.

Details are still sketchy, but reports have alleged that the chase began in uMhlanga. The four suspects fled in one vehicle on the M4, southbound, with the police hot on their trails.

It is suspected that when police began closing in on the suspects the driver decided to attempt a high speed U-turn. This attempt was made near the Broadway (Swapo) Road off ramp.

The suspect’s vehicle reportedly spun into the northbound lane and sped back towards uMhlanga. As the suspects were attempting the manoeuvre one of the police vehicles swerved to miss the suspect’s vehicle and crashed into a civilian vehicle parked in the emergency lane.

According to Kyle van Reenen, of Crisis Medical, the two occupants of the civilian vehicle were ‘critically injured’, while the policeman and his canine companion escaped unscathed.

Van Reenen confirmed that the injured motorists were stabilised and taken to a nearby hospital. He could not comment on the chase.

Further reports allege that the car chase came to an abrupt end near Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World. A gun fight ensued before police arrested one of the suspects.
